01 / The situation

Escaping the noise of the algorithm.

Most of the sewing community has lived on Facebook groups and Instagram, which meant the algorithm decided what people saw, with ads sitting between every post, and 'engagement' being valued over actually helping each other.

ThreadySetGo wanted to make something different - sewists running their own space, no doomscrolling by design and no AI generated content forcing its way in.

02 / What got built

A platform built for people, not advertisers.

Could it be done? A new kind of social platform that doesn't want to gobble up everyone's privacy for breakfast while making people miserable? Turns out yes, actually, and by just two people.

03 / How it worked commercially

Paid for by love.

This is actually a personal project created by me and my wife, in fact it's the first project I ever made for myself in 20 years. The rate I charged is not publicly available, besides I don't think you want to be forced to repeatedly watch Crimson Tide (the best movie ever made), or supply me with endless amounts of homemade cookies.

04 / The stack

Pragmatic tech for reliability.

Laravel Livewire Tailwind Stripe

The underlying technology was deliberately chosen to be invisible. It provides a solid foundation for the community to grow on, prioritising uptime and security instead of over-engineered complexity.

Choosing these technologies allowed us to build highly interactive community features and a seamless membership experience without the bloat and complexity of a heavy framework.

05 / What changed

A growing hub with a real community.

Since launch, ThreadySetGo has become the definitive home for makers looking for a better way to connect:

  • Thousands of members sharing knowledge and helping each other feel more confident.
  • Live events bursting with enthusiasm, proving that sewists were hungry for real-time interaction and guided learning.
  • The membership model is scalable, providing a sustainable foundation for the future of the community.
  • A modular structure means new features, like the upcoming project diaries & stash manager, can add to the community without disruption.

Got a similar problem? Let's talk.

If you're running a business on spreadsheets or software subscriptions that only cover some of what you need, there's probably a better route to achieving your goals.
